Village Revival

Farmhouse Renovation

Originally acquired by Heide and Rafe as a speculative investment, this remarkable 1858 Greek Revival home in Litchfield County quickly became one of the most meaningful collaborations in our studio’s history. The property, complete with its early twentieth century mansard roof, Italianate embellishments, and later expansions, had fallen into disrepair, yet it retained an unmistakable architectural presence. When a longtime admirer saw our first Instagram post announcing the purchase, they immediately reached out, ultimately buying the home with the understanding that Hendricks Churchill would lead the full architectural and interior restoration. What began as a speculative purchased evolved into a deep partnership and a shared commitment to returning the estate to its most authentic and expressive form.

Our work focused on honoring the home’s original architecture while introducing thoughtful updates that support contemporary living. Most historic elements were preserved, with only subtle adjustments made to improve flow and functionality. The resulting home includes five bedrooms and a series of restored and reimagined spaces, from a textured, light filled foyer to richly layered living and dining rooms that weave antique pieces with Scandinavian modernism and bold botanical wallcoverings. Throughout, a nuanced palette of plums, ochres, silvery blues, and deep greens ties the rooms together. On the upper floors, custom millwork, expressive wallpapers, and a softly toned primary suite reinforce a sense of intimacy and warmth, while the finished basement introduces spa like moments with handcrafted tilework and a custom Japanese soaking tub.

Beyond the main house, the 1915 carriage house was restored to provide guest accommodations and a soaring barn like entertaining space, its twenty-five foot ceilings and exposed beams celebrating the property’s rural heritage. Across both structures, the project reflects the kind of full spectrum collaboration, including architecture, interiors, and stewardship, that defines Hendricks Churchill’s finest work. What emerged is an heirloom home revived with care and imagination, now deeply rooted once again in the architectural legacy of Litchfield County.
