HC Residency

The establishment of our residency programs reflects the firm’s desire to attract the right collaborators, both as team members and as clients. We work to cultivate relationships with schools through a competitive internship program that attracts and nurtures the next generation of architects, builders, and interior designers. By working with a younger constituency, we hope to become more energized, more adaptive, and more influential. We prioritize a learn-by-doing approach to education and understand the responsibility of sharing our experience.

Each year, Hendricks Churchill offers two seasonal residency programs in both architecture and interior design, open to current students, recent graduates and those new to the industry. The programs take place in winter and summer and typically last between 6 and 10 weeks. To facilitate this temporary relocation, we provide accommodations for students without access to convenient housing. We welcome applicants from both undergraduate and graduate programs, with all selections based on the quality of the submission.

Participants will work under the direction of the Architecture and Interior Design studio leadership team and be exposed to all phases of the design process, as well as field work and construction site visits and workroom visits and installations. As a small firm, we value a holistic approach to both design and business. Residents will not only acquire skills related to design and construction administration, but also learn the operational side of the business.

Housing accommodations will be provided within or near the village of Salisbury, CT. Resident housing and the Hendricks Churchill studio are located within a short walking distance of restaurants, post office, banks, grocery store, and The White Hart Inn. Residents can take advantage of the many cultural and outdoor recreational activities the region provides. For the occasional weekend trip, the Metro-North train to New York City is a short drive away.

This is a full-time, paid internship with the expectation of a 40-hour work week. The 2024 pay range depends on the applicant’s education and experience, internal pay equity, and external market factors.

Upon completion of the residency program, residents will receive a formal review and a letter of recommendation and may be considered for full-time employment. Interested applicants may send a cover letter, resume and portfolio to careers@hendrickschurchill.com
