Carnegie Hill

Apartment Renovation

Our team was tasked with transforming a minimal, monochromatic 4,000-square-foot apartment, located in an iconic new tower in Carnegie Hill, into a warm, carefully considered and colorful home. Although this turnkey residence addressed the spatial needs of their young family of five, the clients hired our team to bring soul and depth to the space. It was essential to frame the skyline across the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir; yet, it was equally important to ground the apartment within the cityscape and for the view to not dominate or dwarf the interior space.

In part, this project proved to be successful because of the light touch our architecture team applied to a few carefully considered floor plan modifications. The renovation scope included dressing room build-outs and mechanical system alterations. The goal of the architecture team was to leave little trace of our intervention to turn the focus primarily on interior design.

Our interior design team incorporated an eclectic blend of furniture styles from midcentury-modern with bespoke artisan furniture and fine period antiques. Tactile layers of rugs and textiles complement pieces of character with aged patina, creating soulful rooms filled with warmth and comfort that harmoniously blend color and pattern. The apartment took on a dramatic, moody feeling, yet one that complimented the more minimal architecture of the space and exercised a particular Shaker restraint.
